Son of Thomas Hollister and father of William Castles Hollister.

He succeeded John Byfield in his appointment to maintain the organs in St Patricks and Christ Church cathedrals in 1733.

From at least 1751 until his death in 1760, he worked with his son under the name 'Messrs. Hollister and Son'. In 1760, his duties at St Patrick's and Christ Church cathedrals were taken over by his son William Castles.
