1789–1838
A partnership of Thomas Perry and his son-in-law William Wilkinson, entered into in 1789 following Wilkinson's apprenticeship with Perry (Rice). This partnership was known as 'Perry & Wilkinson'.
In the will of Thomas Perry (d. November 1818) Wilkinson was bequeathed 'all my stock in trade, musical instruments finished and unfinished, unwrought stuff and working implements' (Rice).
After Perry's death, William Wilkinson continued to use the name 'Perry & Wilkinson'.
Rice asserts that some Perry & Wilkinson violins sold after 1818 were made by Thomas Perry as his will indicates that at the time of his death 'there were in the workshop both finished and unfinished Thomas Perry violins'. However, Tighe notes that after Perry's death, 'there was a painful lowering of the standard'.
[Dates differ according to sources: Teahan gives the dates as 1818 to 1839 but Rice states that Wilkinson died in 1838. Hogan gives the dates as c. 1824.]
