Born in Scotland.
Apprenticed to Thomas Perry (1808–17).
According to Rice, he 'based his violins broadly on Italian models, Amati, Stradavari and Guarneri'.
Mark: large label with decorative border and 'Mackintosh' stamp (Henley).
[Details differ according to sources: Teahan lists two separate entries for McIntosh (violin maker) and Mackintosh (instrument maker) but Boydell (Card Index) asserts that these are the same person. Henley states that Mackintosh 'worked in Dublin, 1820' but the Dublin Directories give dates for his business from 1817 until his death in 1840. Teahan gives 11 Astor's Quay from 1825 to 1834 but the Dublin Directories give it from 1835 to 1836.]
